Erma Pauline Chambers

Registered Nurse · Beloved Wife, Mother & Grandmother

"Her lifelong example of loving, unselfish care touched everyone she served, and her final wish was that her legacy continue to heal the world."

In Tribute to Those who Inspire Us

Erma Pauline Chambers, RN, lived 96 remarkable years in devoted service to others. From her earliest days in Mitchell, South Dakota, she knew she was called to nursing, a calling she answered with extraordinary faithfulness for over six decades. She earned her Registered Nurse degree from NNU's Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in 1951 and went on to serve patients at clinics and hospitals across Idaho, Massachusetts, and North Carolina, retiring from Iredell Memorial Hospital in 2011 at the age of 81.

Beyond the clinic, Erma was a gifted pianist, a celebrated gardener, a devoted member of the Charlotte Oratorio Singers, and above all, a woman of deep and abiding faith. She surrounded herself with the daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren she poured her heart into. She passed peacefully on April 26, 2026, at The Greens at Maple Leaf in Statesville, NC.

Honor Erma's memory with a gift to Project C.U.R.E.

Erma's heart was never far from those in need. Her sister, Dr. Anna Marie Jackson, and brother-in-law Dr. James W. Jackson, founded Project C.U.R.E., an organization that delivers donated medical supplies and equipment to under-resourced communities around the world. In the spirit of everything Erma stood for as a nurse and as a person of faith, Erma asked that donations be made to continue this healing work.

"She spent her life making sure people had the care they needed. Giving to Project C.U.R.E. is one more way to carry that forward, bringing medical resources to patients who have little else."

Today, under the leadership of Dr. Douglas Jackson, Project C.U.R.E. continues to address staggering shortages in medical resources across more than 135 countries. A gift in Erma's name is a gift of healing to someone, somewhere, who needs it as much as any patient she ever cared for.
